Buying Digital Camera Accessories

When buying a digital camera, do consider the cost of buying some necessary accessories and:

UV filter

for DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera's, one of your first purchase after the body and lens should be a UV filter. It should remain permanently attached to your lens, and serves as protection for the lens. If you accidentally drop your lens or a sharp rock on the surface, the filter will protect the front element of the lens from scratches, it saves you a lot of money. Replacing a filter is cheap. If you plan to sell the lens later, you'll probably have a hard time selling scratched lenses. Incidentally, many photographers start with a basic lens and sell it later to upgrade to a better lens. My first DSLR is a 6-megapixel Nikon D70 and 18-70mm kit lens, which I used for my trip to China in 2004.

shadow

The second thing to mount on your lens is a lens hood, which usually comes along with your lens purchase. Not only does it shield your photos from the glare, it also provides protection at hand in case you drop your lens. Personally had the frightening experience of my expensive lens falls on a hard surface, twice. metal lens hood 85mm lens broke my fall and was dented, but it saved the lens. second incident involved my 70-200mm lens falls on the marble floor of the table height, with only shadow damage. So, save up some potential stress and keep the hood on.

enough storage media

These come in various formats, eg. Compact Flash (CF), Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick and many others. Usually the one that comes bundled with the camera is insufficient. I suggest a minimum of 4GB for 10 megapixel cameras. more megapixels a camera has, the faster the storage media will be charged. I personally have used portable hard drives during my many trips, but have found that keeping a few large CF cards in my bag is the best solution. The weakness of portable hard drives hard disk itself, which is fragile (especially if they move on uneven terrain), and is not prone to the worst possible moment.

spare battery

is not necessary, but since a convenient finger notoriously batteries drain quickly. If your camera uses a proprietary lithium battery, you must get at least one additional, and universal travel adapter, so that your charger can be used in any country. If you use AA batteries, rechargeable get spare parts that are cheaper than the lithium batteries. AA batteries are also easily accessible even in remote areas, although you'd probably just find a non-charged species when the rest of the island.

DVD Writer / External Hard Drive

This is because digital cameras do not produce negative like film cameras do. So, you'll need a way to backup your precious photos, in case your hard drive crashes. I recommend creating multiple backup copies of important photos to DVD, as well as external hard drives. This is to guard against the possibility of corrupt DVD or bad sectors on an external hard drive.

Lens Pen

This is a handy tool for cleaning the front lens element, or a UV filter when you travel. pen takes almost no room in your bag, do not use any alcohol messy, and it is super fast to use. To clean the lens, Lens Pen just rub in a circular motion on the front element, and you're done!

After these additions will improve your overall photography experience, and make it a deeply satisfying hobby.
