Goodwood Revival 2009 Part V - The Final Day of Racing

Bookmark and Share

We set the Madgewick corner nice and early again with a sausage and egg baguette in one hand and a cup of tea in the other ... you start the day! Brooklands Trophy was the first race of the day and the beast of a race boot in the true sense of the word with Nick Mason taking the lead to victory in the Aston Martin Ulster.

Richmond Trophy is up for the following types of cars that raced between 1950 and 1960 with a mini parade follows shortly after another led by Mr. Bean, along with outspan Orange Mini and Mini Caveman!

Goodwood Revival never ceases to amaze me. None other than Buzz Aldrin swooped in to join us in the helicopter was originally used in the Vietnam War. Mr. March he collected from the landing pad, and drove him around the racing circuit, waving in the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Ford Thunderbird. Mr. Aldrin flew in especially to try the Spirit of Aviation aircraft Concourse Competition.

He was very gracious and wished him a happy birthday Sir Stirling before Mr. Moss took the road again to bring his 80th birthday celebratory parade, I announced that Buzz will soon be joined by Sir Stirling in his 80th birthday celebrations. Just as Sir Stirling is about to go on parade, a cake was presented to him as Lord March's sister sang Happy Birthday to the Royal Marine Band in the background, soon followed by a gun greeting delivered to the Royal Horse Artillery, the first for Goodwood Revival with fully charged supplied through the airport with canon in tow!

Part 2 of Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy was next with a slower rider going first. Of course, Wayne Gardner did not disappoint today and won in style after the swap over.

and then, back in Minis at St. Mary's Trophy Part Two. an exciting race with lots of fun corners and overtaking ... I have a new found regard for the Mini after seeing what they are really capable of in skillful hands ... Its worth mentioning that the warm bosom of the driver took the car all the way around the circuit with the hood up - unintentionally of course - "I just said to blow the bloody doors off", which led to mind those immortal words of joyful race ..

Argh, and now the guttural car again at the Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration race ... Another spectacular event with plenty of thrills and spills. Unfortunately, Vulcan decided to make another appearance in this race and I lost some of its presence deafening roar that comes from the track!

Freddie March Memorial Trophy was the next car in the spirit of Goodwood Nine Hour Race, 1952-1955, with the Chichester Cup shortly afterwards.

the final race of the day was Pentecost Trophy, fitting the last race for a wonderful weekend extravaganza. Unfortunately, there was a crash on the starting grid, but no one was hurt thank goodness, although David Jacobs was not amused, he waited all weekend for the race and had come all the way from America. Race were the fastest cars at the meeting, including the rare GT40s GT40 prototype.

is sad that the end of racing at Goodwood Revival for another year with the only awards ceremony will be conducted. What a wonderful weekend ... celebrity ... can not wait till next year!
