Tamron 18-250mm Lens Review

I just tested the Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 lens for my Canon EOS 7D camera. This lens is also available for Nikon (with built-in motor), Pentax and Sony cameras. Tamron also an upgraded version of this lens, called the 18-270mm VC for Canon and Nikon DSLR.

This lens is an upgraded version of the Tamron 18-200mm lens. quality of workmanship and finish lenses clearly reflects the update. In relation to optical quality, it seems that they are still clinging to their old 18-200mm formula. I have found very minor differences between the two lenses in terms of optical quality.

zoom ring has been updated in this lens. It feels more solid and has a zoom lock mechanism to prevent zoom creep. This makes it easier to transport the lens.

Just like the old version, I found the autofocus quick but a bit on the noisy side. During the review, I think it's hard to take pictures discreetly. Also, a small opening at the telephoto end of the hunt makes the autofocus in low light. There is a simple solution for this: switch to manual focus. It will take time to get used to, but it will be worthwhile.

in terms of price, it is more expensive than 18-200mm. If you are looking for budget super zoom lens, Tamron 18-200mm lens is still the best option.

In terms of optical quality, this lens has low chromatic aberration and vignetting. However, I found the barrel distortion will be quite high.

In the end, this lens is good for general photography and travel photography. However, keep in mind that this is not a professional lens, so do not expect a professional performance from it.
